Polski Teatr Tańca (Polish Dance Theatre)

Description

The Polish Dance Theatre (Polski Teatr Tańca) is a professional, independent ensemble whose repertoire has evolved from ballet to contemporary dance theatre. It was founded in 1973 by Conrad Drzewiecki, whose pioneering artistic ventures placed the institution on par with Europe's best. In 1988-2016, the Managing and Artistic Director of the Polish Dance Theatre was Prof. Ewa Wycichowska, a long-time prima ballerina at the Grand (Wielki) Theatre of Łódź as well as a choreographer, teacher, and professor of musical arts.

Ewa Wycichowska's unique approach to staging and choreography blended multiple art forms and attracted collaborating artists from around the world. On 1 September 2016, the post of the theatre's Managing Director passed to Dr Iwona Pasińska - a dancer, choreographer, educator, with a Ph.D. in drama, and a long-time first soloist at the Polish Dance Theatre. Dr Pasińska strongly emphases working with directors and playwrights and across disciplines. She draws on dance cinematography and social dance drama, strives to establish a strong national and international presence and inspires a dialogue with the most valuable parts of the Polish cultural heritage.
