MUSEUMS IN POZNAŃ on plan

Muzeum Armii Poznań (Poznań Army Museum)

Description

The museum is located in the Poznań Citadel, at a site where Prussian troops were stationed until 1918, and occupied by Polish Army soldiers after Poland regained independence. More specifically, the museum is housed in a casemate chamber, known today as the "Little River Lock", which survived the fighting of February 1945. The museum's permanent exhibition entitled Faithful to the Oath portrays the combat trail of the "Poznań" Army, which culminated in the battle of the Bzura.

Although the battle failed to reverse the course of the war, it went down in history as the biggest and bloodiest battle of the September 1939 campaign. Insights into those tragic days of defeat and glory come from fighter accounts, newspapers, documents, maps and actual soldier equipment and uniforms.
