Malta Festival Poznań

Description

Malta Festival Poznań is a marriage of grand concerts by world stars, experimental performances, intimate projects in urban space, round-the-clock activities of the festival club and meetings with philosophers, sociologists and literary scholars.

For over a quarter of a century, the Festival has been a melting pot of traditions, themes and forms. The common denominator of its diverse narratives is the desire to understand today's world through art. Malta Festival Poznań (known as the Malta International Theatre Festival until 2009) ranks among Central and Eastern Europe's most prominent artistic events. The Festival was established in 1991, intended as an opportunity to stage outdoor, off-mainstream, non-repertory, experimental theatre performances in Poland. Over time, its formula was broadened to embrace other art forms.

Since 2010, its thematic core are The Idioms, designed to tackle social and cultural issues of the day. Each edition of The Idioms is produced by another director. In addition to the themes, music, dance performances, New Situations and the presentation of the local theatre scene, Malta Festival Poznań redefines its role in the city, which it sees as creating a space for dialogue, open meetings and experience sharing.
